The Everglades Foundation’s ForEverglades Benefit made its debut in Miami last night, complete with special guests, a musical performance and a proclamation for Everglades Foundation Day
On November 15, 2012 we held our first-ever Miami version of our annual ForEverglades Benefit. It was a packed house at the Alhambra Room of the historic Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables, with over 200 guests joining us for a fun and laid-back evening to celebrate and recognize the importance of America’s Everglades.
The tone of the program for the event was a blend of gratitude, humor, entertainment and information about the ecosystem and the importance of restoration efforts, coupled with an overall sense of appreciation and recognition of the things that truly make America’s Everglades one of the world’s most unique ecosystems.
Speakers and special guests included Miss Florida 2012, Laura McKeeman, who has been an esteemed advocate for Everglades restoration and the Foundation since her crowning in St. Petersburg in July earlier this year; Deputy Mayor of Miami-Dade County, Alina Hudak, announced a proclamation citing November 15th as Everglades Foundation Day; Everglades Foundation Board members Carlos de la Cruz Jr., Paul Tudor Jones II, David Lawrence Jr. and Rex Hamilton also spoke.
Entertainment for the evening included a musical performance by platinum recording artist Gavin DeGraw, who filled the room with his soulful sound, freewheeling melodies, and earthy charm. DeGraw performed an acoustic set and played hit songs including “I Don’t Want To Be,” “Follow Through,” and “Chariot.”
We are thrilled with the enthusiasm and turnout for ForEverglades Miami, but this event would not have been possible without the tremendous support of our donors, sponsors, Board of Directors and the staff of the Everglades Foundation, who pulled everything together to make this happen. We’re already looking forward to next year.
