WILLIAM “BILL” RILEY

FOUNDING DIRECTOR

William “Bill” Riley is a corporate executive, writer and conservationist. He received his AB from University of Notre Dame and an LLB from Yale University. Along with his wife, Laura Riley, he authored Guide to the National Wildlife Refuges (1979), which was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize. He and Laura also wrote Nature’s Strongholds, published in 2005. This book won a Lowell Thomas Award from the Society of American Travel Writers, and an award from the Outdoor Writers’ Foundation. He received the Lifetime Conservation award from the National Audubon Society in 2000, and the Conservationist of the Year award from the Everglades Coalition in 2001. He has served on the boards of the National Wildlife Refuge Association, Hawk Mountain Sanctuary Association and the National Audubon Society.
