Back to School with the Everglades Literacy Program

The Everglades Foundation's Education team has been busy this summer preparing to bring the Everglades Literacy Program to classrooms across Florida! In the past three months, our Education team has provided training to over 200 teachers from 8 counties and received over 100 applications for our Everglades Champion Schools program.

In July, our team joined the School District of Manatee County to celebrate their first-ever Champion School “Gold-Level” recognition based on achievements in Everglades professional development, implementing Everglades literacy into their curriculum, promoting Everglades interdisciplinary projects and field experiences, and incorporating the Everglades into their school culture.

Throughout the summer, Florida teachers and several cohorts of our Everglades Champion Schools teachers joined our Education team for hands-on and outdoor professional development training like a Big Cypress National Preserve swamp walk, kayaking in the Gulf Coast, and a guided nature walk at Oxbow Eco-Center.

Know a teacher or school administrator who might be interested in bringing Everglades Literacy into the classroom? Share our video below with them, or visit https://www.evergladesliteracy.org to learn more.
