Gareth joined The Everglades Foundation as Water Resources Engineer in May 2022 after serving as a Water Use Analyst with the Suwannee River Water Management District. Prior to that, he spent many years as a senior lecturer at the University of KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa, where he had obtained his bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Engineering. In addition to training the next generation of agricultural engineers, Gareth’s research focused on the fields of Agricultural Supply Chains, Precision Agriculture, and Ecological Modeling.
Gareth earned a Ph.D. in Agricultural and Biological Engineering from the University of Florida, where he also studied Land and Water Resources, as well as Hydrologic Sciences. His research focused on modeling vegetation dynamics in the Everglades was funded in part by the South Florida Water Management District and the Water Resources Research Center.
In his personal time, Gareth teaches martial arts, and is a craft brewer and hobbyist herpetologist. He is married and lives in Palmetto Bay, FL.
