Statement of Everglades Foundation on DeSantis Victory
“This was not about red or blue – this was about blue-green and red”
Palmetto Bay, Fla. — The Everglades Foundation CEO Eric Eikenberg has issued the following statement on the victory of Ron DeSantis as the 46th Governor of Florida:
“We join all Floridians in offering our heartfelt congratulations on the victory of Ron DeSantis as Florida’s new Governor. The Everglades Foundation stands prepared to work with the Governor-elect and his administration on the critical issues of Everglades restoration and solving Florida’s water crisis.
“Governor-elect DeSantis knows better than most that this election was not about red or blue, but rather, it was about blue-green and red – the algae that is choking our waterways and harming the economies of Florida’s coastlines. It is critical that Governor-elect DeSantis work to secure at least $200 million in federal funding for Everglades restoration and that he work with us to ensure that the Everglades reservoir project begins in 2019. America’s Everglades and Florida’s economy cannot afford to wait.”
