The Everglades Foundation Responds to Concerns About the Aquatic Herbicide Spraying Program In Florida

MIAMI, Fla. – “Anything to do with the quality of water in Lake Okeechobee is of deep concern to The Everglades Foundation.  Our scientists are concerned over possible effects of glysophate in Lake Okeechobee, and are collaborating with the University of Florida to investigate. Nationally, the use of glysophate, a common herbicide, has climbed dramatically, with complex environmental consequences, including potentially serving as a driver for antibiotic resistance. In 2015, the World Health Organization reclassified glysophate as ‘probably carcinogenic.’ We will be sure to keep the public posted on all and any of our findings.”
