Palmetto Bay, Fla. – The Everglades Foundation today released the following statement, attributable to its CEO Eric Eikenberg, regarding the authorization of the long-awaited Central Everglades Planning Project in the Water Infrastructure Improvements for the Nation (WIIN) Act
“Today, we celebrate the authorization of the long-awaited Central Everglades Planning Project (CEPP) in the Water Infrastructure Improvements for the Nation (WIIN) Act.
“CEPP can bring approximately 67 billion gallons of water to improve the habitat in Florida Bay, especially preventing future seagrass die-offs currently threatening valuable fisheries in the Florida Keys.
“The Everglades Foundation also acknowledges the strong bipartisan leadership of our United States Senate and House of Representatives in it’s commitment to Everglades restoration. We thank Chairman Bill Shuster and the bipartisan members of the Florida delegation for their diligent efforts to advance this important restoration project.
“We look forward to continuing to work with leadership in the Senate, House, and members of the Florida delegation to protect our estuaries, water supply, economy and America’s Everglades.”
